SW409 - Social Work Practice I: Individuals and Families This course teaches students the values, knowledge and skills required for effective, competent and ethical generalist social work practice, across a wide range of settings with individuals and families. Emphasis is placed on understanding and application of the nine social work competencies as set forth by the Council of Social Work Education (2015), and the seven core helping functions from a strength’s based approach. This course is taken concurrently with Generalist Field Education I, and is designed to integrate classroom learning with concrete expression of generalist practice in actual helping situations across field practicum experiences.
